In February, my host account for this website goes up for renewal and I will not be renewing.

It was a hard decision.  We have made so many new friends through this blog- we connected with families adopting from China and were able to watch some of those family “unions” first hand.

We’ve also had the privilege of sharing our lives and our stories here- and we’ve connected with several new friends who have emailed and commented and kept in touch.

Out of respect for our daughters’ growing need for privacy, our family’s intended move into a new chapter of overseas living, and my personal transition from stay-at-home-mom to working mom… the time has come.

Most of our family and friends have found us on Facebook, so we are still connected, just in new ways.

I’m leaving this up until February when the host site will eventually close my account.  I hope to get my act together and have a book made for Keith and I and the girls of this blog- it is a great ‘memoir’ of our time in China together.

Thank you to all of those who have read and shared and commented the past few years- and please don’t be a stranger!

I certainly understand your decision, but I will miss following your family’s life adventure. Thanks for your help when my daughter studied in China.

  2. Barb Says:

I also understand and respect your decision, but I have loved following your journey and had many chuckles over your experience in China (bikes, taxis, shopping)…it was all so very interesting! :) Best wishes on your next adventure.

  3. lighthousegal Says:

I am sorry to hear about this. I was looking forward to hearing about your adventures in Korea. I do certainly understand your reasons, though. I have found you on facebook and will continue to keep up to date, but those little blurbs just don’t do your sense of humor justice. Please continue to post pictures on FB - I love your photography.

My DH and I are no longer eligible for adoption from China, though we were really hoping to head back one more time for a special needs child. Your blog has really helped me relive my time in China and made me chuckle and say “remember when” about my adoptions and ease the “homesick” feeling I have for China, her culture, her people, and her children.

  4. homeschooler Says:

How terribly sad. Yours was my favorite, most anticipated daily read when you were actively blogging. Loved the stories of your day-to-day China life! Don’t do Facebook, so will miss your stories very much! Hope you return to blogging one day!

I wish you the best on your journey!

I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and learning about life in China — I’m going to miss it! You’ve shared such fun things (and no, I was never bored!), and I was always amazed about how life is in China — some place I can’t even imagine living. But I do understand . . . life gets busy, kids grow up, times change. I wish you and your family all the very best that life can bring!

  13. Becky Powell Says:

I am going to miss reading about your adventures, also. I checked your blog first before any others each day. As I understand the need for privacy of your girls, I still will miss the updates on your fascinating moments in China and beyond!

  27. Eileen Says:

Will miss your blog! But I completely understand. Somehow it has been comforting to me to have a glimpse into life in China while we endured a long wait for our second child from China. Wishing you all the best on your next adventure.

  28. Jan Scholl Says:

It’s been a joy reading this. Since my hubby no longer travels to the Far East (retired) I loved reading and seeing the beauty of it thru others eyes. I hope you can archive this site somewhere (maybe Google blog?) simply for the history of it. Others will discover your beautiful writings along the way. Safe landings whereever you go.

  29. janmary, n ireland Says:

Been lovely to “meet” you on line, and follow your adventures.

Aaah, that’s so sad. Seriously, I kind of got teary eyes and I don’t even know you in person! I don’t comment all the time but I still read your adventures through my GReader when you post. How long has it been… almost 2-yrs now? I love to travel and one day I’d love to go to China and maybe do something for a non-profit. I have two girls too and they’re all over my blog. Maybe one day I might go your direction with the blog or just keep the girls our or lessen their presence but for now things are still ok. We’re moving to the UK in a few months and very much looking forward to our new adventure there. Good luck with everything, I’m sure it’ll be lovely. I’d love to follow you through FB but I’m only an online follower and you probably keep your FB to people you know more.

  32. Lynn W Says:

I feel like I know you from your blog. I like many others haven’t been too chatty with comments, but I check in just about 4 times a week. I am on Facebook but we aren’t really acquainted. I will miss the updates! You have added alot to my education abLyyout life around the world from IL!

  37. Kay Says:

I will really miss reading about your adventures but I understand the reasoning behind it. I’m on FB but since I’ve never met you IRL,it would feel a little weird to “friend” you - plus it would seem the opposite of your desire for privacy for you and your girls so I guess this is goodbye :( Best of luck to you all as your continue on your journey!

  38. Wendilou Says:

“Du Ribt Yrts” will live in the smiling part of my heart forever. Love you and thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. I am lucky to have found your stories. All the best of luck to you and your family in your future adventures.

Although I have never commented on your blog, I have really loved reading your experiences/challenges in China. I found your blog via your sister right before you moved to China and have read your blog ever since. I will miss reading your blog. You really are a talented writer. Good luck on your next journey!

  40. cpine Says:

    Kimberly,

I have loved each of your entries starting back when you shared your creations and digiscrapping to the adventures in a different culture through American eyes. You have a talent for writing with great voice. I have laughed (the translated signs are a fav) and even cried (the video from an adoptive family that began at a train station- wow) as you shared experiences and how Dad lead your way. I completely understand the need for privacy, but will miss your updates. Maybe we can reconnect on FB.

    Hugs,

May God blessings be with you and your family and maybe someday we will “meet” again in this new world called cyberspace.

  56. Clara Says:

I guess I will have to find another overseas family to live vicariously through :) But as He says, “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity….a time to scatter stones and a time to gather…a time to embrace and a time to refrain…a time to be silent and a time to speak…”

They talk about China all the time. In fact, tonight we were talking about scorpions and my oldest said that she thinks there are lots of scorpions in China. You have become a part of our lives and we will miss reading your stories and adventures.

I have said it before, but if you are looking for some pen pals for your girls just let me know. Mine are 5 & 6 and they would love it.

I am going to miss your blog so much. I have two daughters adopted from China, so hearing your stories was always a thrill to me. I am excited about your next journey, but will miss hearing about your life. Thank you for sharing it with us.

this is random i know, but i just came a across your blog today and i have a couple of questions for you about your life abroad as my husband (a teacher) & I (& 2 kids) are looking into teaching abroad for the upcoming school year (and beyond) there is so much info out there that i feel a bit lost and i was wondering if you had a moment if you could send me and email so i might ask you a couple questions. i did not see a email contact on your blog. please i am not spam…just another mom reaching across the world to another mom. thanks

I wish I could find your contact info on here, but this looks like the best way to reach you! Sorry! Feel free to delete!

So, I love love love your ‘just me again down here’ font and I would like to use it for my website. I am building an online boutique selling socially conscious gifts and decor. You have it marked free for personal use. I would be happy to pay your for it. Let me know!

Wish you the best in your new adventure!
